THE IDEA

A location-based fun finder and hangout app that uses real-time data and user preferences to suggest nearby events, activities, and social gatherings, helping users discover exciting opportunities to connect and have fun in their immediate vicinity.

THE PROBLEM

In a world where people are increasingly looking for meaningful connections and exciting ways to spend their free time, there’s a growing demand for a mobile app that feels like a trusted friend, always ready to help you find exciting things to do right in your neighborhood. This app should make it effortless to discover events, meet like-minded individuals, and enhance your social life. The problem we’re tackling in this case study is how to create that perfect companion, tailored to each user’s preferences, and designed to make life more fun and enjoyable.

AUDIENCE

The target audience for this location-based fun finder and hangout app includes socially active individuals aged 18 to 45, who seek opportunities to discover and participate in a wide range of events, activities, and gatherings within their immediate vicinity, fostering connections and memorable experiences.

THE PRODUCT

UNWD is an intuitive, location-based mobile app that empowers users to effortlessly discover and join nearby events and social activities, enhancing their spontaneous and social experiences.

Design Process

Research & Planning

User Research

At the core of our design journey, we immersed ourselves in the lives of potential users. Through surveys and personal interviews, we uncovered their desires and challenges when discovering nearby events and social gatherings. Combining numbers from surveys with personal stories from interviews, we created vivid user personas that steered our design choices. UNWD now mirrors our users’ diverse needs, making it their ideal companion for fun and connection.

Some Questions I asked:

In the user research process for UNWD, we employed a two-pronged approach. First, structured surveys were used to gather quantitative data from a broad spectrum of potential users, providing insights into their preferences for events and activities. Then, one-on-one interviews were conducted with a smaller group, delving into personal experiences, motivations, and challenges.

This combination of quantitative and qualitative data allowed us to create vivid user personas and glean valuable insights, which now serve as the compass guiding the design and development of UNWD. Through this research, we ensure that our app is truly user-centered, aligning with the needs and expectations of our diverse target audience.
